The City of Bricelyn encourages our residents to have house numbers posted on their houses and visible from the street.
Building Permits are required for visible residential or commercial improvements, additions, sheds or fences prior to starting work. Also, for any type of digging you plan to do on your property, you must notify Gopher State One at 1-800-252-1166 at least 2 days in advance of starting your project (this is also required for planting trees or shrubs, etc). You may contact the City Office for more information.
Open burning and Recreational Fires. The Bricelyn City Ordinance specifically forbids open burning of refuse or trash. Recreational fires are allowed without a permit; however, such fires must not be larger than 3 feet in diameter or 3 feet in height. A competent person who has equipment to put the fire out if it were to get out of control must also attend these fires. From October 1st to November 30th only, we allow open burning of leaves, unless there is a “fire danger alert”.
Compost Site. The City has a compost site to take leaves, brush and lawn clippings. No garbage, lumber, or any other materials. The State may close the site if it is being used improperly, so please report any violations you see to the City. You may contact the City Office for more information.
Pet Ordinance. The City of Bricelyn’s dog and cat ordinance requires that all pets (even inside pets) over 6 months of age be current on vaccinations, and be licensed with the City. The Veterinary Clinic, together with the City offers a yearly animal clinic in the fall of each year. For more information you may contact the City Office, or the Veterinary Clinic at 653-4646.
If you have a pet, please try to be a good neighbor. Do not allow your pet to run loose, and pick up any feces your pet may leave on public or private property. Animals are not allowed to disturb neighbors or become “nuisances”. If kept outside, please keep their pen clean and free of odors and filth, which would disturb neighbors.
Yard & Boulevard maintenance. In an effort to ensure that our community is a safe and attractive place to live, the city ordinance states that grass must be maintained at a height of 6” or less. The maintenance of the boulevard and easements are the property owner’s responsibility (middle of street to middle of alleyway). Please do not mow the grass clippings into the streets, and keep trees trimmed along roadways to allow for better visibility.
It is a public nuisance for any person to accumulate manure, refuse, or other debris within the City limits. Abandoned or unlicensed vehicles, household appliances, furniture, or any other material that may harbor rats and mice are also considered a public nuisance. Please keep your yard neat and clean.
Curfews. No person under the age of 16 is allowed to be on any public street, alley, park, or any other public place between the hours of 10pm and 5am unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. For children ages 16 or 17, the curfew hours are from 12am to 5am unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Snowmobile & ATV operation. No operation of Snowmobiles and ATV’s will be allowed between the hours of 10pm and 8am, except on direct route to owner’s residence. All Snowmobiles and ATV’s must travel on the far right of streets and alleys at a speed of 15 miles per hour or less. They must be equipped with a working headlight, taillight, brakes, and a manufacturer’s stock muffler. Operation is prohibited within 75 feet of a school, playground, or on any private property unless received direct permission from owner. All operators must have a valid license to operate such machinery.
Winter Parking Regulations. The City’s winter parking program is in effect from October 15th to April 15th of each year to help provide for efficient snow removal. No vehicle is to remain on any street or alley for a period of 24 hours after each snowfall, or until street is plowed curb to curb. Please report violations to the Sheriff Dept. immediately. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to use caution and stay clear of snowplows. The City appreciates your courtesy during snow removal.
